How it all Started...

During a 2006 visit by Charlie Garcia to Mike Joyce's B9 Creations Lost in Space Robot "Factory" in Deadwood, South Dakota, Mike Joyce, Robot technician Greg Logue and Charlie began discussing a gathering of some type for the B9 Robot Builders Club. Charlie suggested that he would organize an event in Denver the following year that he would call RoboCon and it was readily accepted by Mike and Greg.

The following year RoboCon became reality. Joining the very successful Starfest convention, run by Steve Walker and his wife, Kathy, was a natural fit. That first year, 12 B9 Club Members attended from all over the United States. There were a couple of Club Members that traveled from the East Coast and one dedicated member who came all the way from England, Paul Felski.

Mike brought the B9 Creations Serial Number 001 Robot, and Charlie Garcia's was also on hand for fans to study, admire and take photographs of and with. The fledgling group shared a display room with the Model Builders. As an inaugural treat, Mike Joyce brought a production torso with him and held a drawing for it, for free!

Eric Johnson sent along a welded steel tread section for display that turned up the next year on Charlie's robot!

After the convention on Sunday, Charlie held a luncheon at his home where those that could came over, ate and talked about the following year's event.
